Key Benefits

The Families First program was introduced to the community in March 2006. The full service comprehensive program was developed to reach families that have a mindset to further improve their relationships with their children. In addition, families enrolled in the Families First program have a distinct desire to positively influence the relationships their children have with the community and school alike.

Components of the Families First Program

  • Home Based Parenting Group

Parenting groups are held in various homes of family members throughout the community. Five to six parents come together (per group) to learn new techniques for enhancing their relationships while simultaneously building friendships and support with other members. There is a great emphasis on building supports for parents who are otherwise isolative in their struggles. The module utilized for this program is taken from the Blue Prints Model Project, Incredible Years, which has over 20 years of research based on documented success. The program is taught in (9) segments whereby family members must make a commitment to complete the program.

  • Education Tele-Conferencing

Members of Families First participate in monthly tele-conferencing whereby allowing them the privilege of calling into a group forum from the comforts of their home. Tele-Conferencing is taught by Masters Level Therapists. Parents gain additional knowledge on issues ranging from "What to do  when your child has a tantrum in the supermarket" to "How to handle a teenager experimenting with drugs/alcohol," as well as issues such as "How to support my child's education while simultaneously supporting the rules of the school." One topic is covered per month, and parents can request to have articles mailed to their home pertaining to the issue at hand.

  • Family Therapy

Members of Families First participate in Bi-weekly Family Therapy to address issues not covered in the parenting group that are specific to their individual family needs.
